This is a great milestone in the endeavour to boost tourism, reverse the trend of bongo extinction and to improve health, education, water and roads in Meru communities.

Further, Governor Kawira was greatly honored to have been installed as a patron of the trust. She promised her full support.

There are only 99 bongos in Kenya. This sanctuary which will sit on 250 acres of land in the initial stage, will enable reproduction and redeem this species that is vital to management of our ecosystem. On Tuesday next week, there will be a ground breaking ceremony on the repatriation of 25 bongos from Florida.

Immense gratitude goes out to the national government for issuing Meru county with the license, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy for their technical and financial support, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service and Community Forest Association.
