Governer to Improve Healthcare
Governor Kiraitu Murungi has promised to invest massive in the health sector with focus on preventive healthcare to ensure improved healthcare provision in the County. Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony for a modern ward block to be built in two phases at the Meru Level Five Hospital, Kiraitu thanked President Kenyatta’s government for financing the project. Murungi also commissioned the construction of a new renal unit and a ten bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Governor also witnessed laparoscopic surgery also referred as minimally invasive surgery – where surgeons are guided by video cameras to perform the procedure after making three small cuts. Laparoscopic surgeries are common in high-end private hospitals. The Governor said his administration will build a doctors plaza around the Meru Level Hospital Plaza to attract consultants who will serve residents closer to their doorsteps. “My government has set up a board chaired by Prof. Alice Mutungi to manage the hospital. The board will work closely with the hospital director to be recruited soon.” he added He directed the board to formulate a ten year strategic plan for the hospital.
