MERU COUNTY SIGNS A NEW MOU WITH LEWA CONSERVANCY FOR A RHINO SANCTUARY

Today the Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Chief Operations Officer, Dr Tuqa Jirmo in respect of a collaboration in various initiatives.
Part of the initiative includes creation of a community rhino and bongo santuary by re-introducing and protecting the endangered species such as the black rhino and mountain bongo at Muchene and Marania forests.
This will greatly benefit the local community by promoting tourism, promoting green energy, supporting schools through digital literacy, promoting healthcare, development of water and roads infrastructure, promoting forestry and agro-forestry.

It will also develop appropriate human-wildlife conflict mitigation strategies, promote youth and women micro enterprise programme, improve agriculture and food security, promote livestock development, develop sports tourism among others.
In attendance was the Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu, the CEC member for Tourism, Trade and Industry Maingi Mugambi , Chief Officer for Tourism Titus Murungi and the Meru County Chief of Staff  Gideon Kimathi.
