BETIKA NA COMMUNITY IN MERU

Betting firm, Betika will host tournament at Kinoru Stadium in Meru County this Saturday 23rd and 24th November as part of their countrywide programme to invest in nurturing talents at grassroots.

Meru becomes the second county to host the football tournament after Machakos County hosted the pioneer tournament at Kenyatta Stadium three weeks ago.

In an advert in a local daily, the firm said the participating teams will get uniforms kits, footballs, goal-nets, financial support and renovation of their pitch.

The tournament aims to invest in local teams by reaching and developing football talent in the grassroots,’’ read part of the advert.

The football tournament which is in partnership with Meru County Government and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) brings together 20 teams from the county.

Money to be won

Trophies and prize monies will be won by participating teams. 20 local men’s and women’s teams who will take part.

STATE OF MANVIR BAYRINA AFTER KCB MERU RALLY CRUSH

The wreck of Manvir Baryan’s Skoda Fabia after it crashed during the second leg of the KCB Meru Safari Rally.
Africa rally champion Manvir Baryan is recovering at the Aga Khan Hospital after his Skoda Fabia crashed during the second leg of the KCB Meru Safari Rally.
The Kenyan rally car driver, together with his English navigator Drew Sturrock saw his race cut short after his car somersaulted seven times.
The race had to be halted for about an hour as rally officials debated on whether to take the injured Baryan for treatment in Nairobi.

Sturrock was also taken to hospital for checkups though he had not sustained major injuries.

MERU COUNTY SIGNS A NEW MOU WITH LEWA CONSERVANCY FOR A RHINO SANCTUARY

Today the Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Chief Operations Officer, Dr Tuqa Jirmo in respect of a collaboration in various initiatives.
Part of the initiative includes creation of a community rhino and bongo santuary by re-introducing and protecting the endangered species such as the black rhino and mountain bongo at Muchene and Marania forests.
This will greatly benefit the local community by promoting tourism, promoting green energy, supporting schools through digital literacy, promoting healthcare, development of water and roads infrastructure, promoting forestry and agro-forestry.

It will also develop appropriate human-wildlife conflict mitigation strategies, promote youth and women micro enterprise programme, improve agriculture and food security, promote livestock development, develop sports tourism among others.
In attendance was the Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu, the CEC member for Tourism, Trade and Industry Maingi Mugambi , Chief Officer for Tourism Titus Murungi and the Meru County Chief of Staff  Gideon Kimathi.
